Server Error/Permissions problems with new install

Good evening folks.

I've decided to install CMS for my website as I like the nice, clean layout. I'm not sure where I went wrong or if it's with the server configuration, but I'm having an issue getting the setup started.

I have uploaded the file structure to a subdirectory (subdomain) on my site. I suppose my first question should be:

Do I need to keep the files housed inside the "cmsmadesimple" folder or can I place the contents of that folder directly? The way I have it setup is that the index.php and it's level of files are in the root of the subdirectory/subdomain.

I've gone through the installation instructions and have set the appropriate permissions, yet I seem to be having no luck.

As soon as I go to my site (www.blahblah.com/index.php) it gives me Internal Server Error.

Is there something I can check appropriate permissions against?

Thanks!

Since I just clicked my own link, I want to say for the record that blahblah.com is not my site - I guess I just picked a bad example (Canadian :))

Just thought I would let y'all know I removed the files and put them up again. All seems fine now - must have been a bad upload.

Now to figure out how to customize it!
