Hello,

My website isn't loading anymore And I think it has got something to do with the version. I know use version 1.9.4. The website is:

www.vrijzinnighervormdekerknieuw-amsterdamveenoord.nl

(it is a website for a church)

So far, this is what I have done:

download the newest version 2.28, result: 1.9.4 is too old for upgrading with this installer.

Found the upgrade page and first I should upgrade to 1.10.3, downloaded the files and copied them succesfully to the site, open the upgrade page --> blank screen, opening the installer --> first page I can select the language but the next page is also blank.

What can I do? I've read somewhere that plugins can be the problem, can I turn them off in a file?

Something else?

Doing a new install is the last thing on my list, but if it comes to that, there are a lot of text on the website, what is the best way to export that from the database to normal text so I can rebuild the site?

Small update:

I have placed a back-up back from last week, I've copied 2 versions to the site trying to fix it so now back to how it was

The domain provider has upgraded their PHP to 7.1 some time ago, I had the option to set it back to version 5.6 but this did not help

last but not least go to 2.2.8

Pay attention to Captcha module it has to be updated always, look in forge ( other modules also, but Captcha absolutely )

Go in forge and read about Release history, each of version has to be updated and compatible with the CMSMS version you are running during updates

After setting it to PHP 5.6 (which you should do until you're on 2.x) make sure to clear the cache. If you can't get into the admin before upgrades, clear it manually - empty everything from the folders /tmp/templates_c and /tmp/cache

Also check your PHP error log, there'll be some clues in there when you get a blank screen. If it's a module causing the issue, just rename its folder in the /modules directory until you can upgrade or replace it.

Unfornately I was not able to get the site working again with the tips. I had the PHP version already at 5.6

I have renamed the module and the plugin folders, no effect

the version 1.10 was also a blank page

I needed to get the site working again so I logged in at phpmyadmin, found all the pages and exported them. I installed Wordpress (yes I know) but the provider supports it and another site that I have is also wordpress.

And the site is up again! With all the content, just a little bit different look and feel.
