Strange database problem after install

Hi,
I'm absolutely a newbie here, so please have mercy... My problem is that after successful install, everything seems to be in place, and I seem to get the main idea of how to run administration, but I'm getting this on the site whenever I click on something:
"Warning: mysql_real_escape_string() [function.mysql-real-escape-string]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) in /nfs/extra/z/zo/zoltandragon/wwwroot/lib/adodb_lite/adodbSQL_drivers/mysql/mysql_driver.inc on line 174"
I cannot even use the print option, as it gives this instead of the material to be printed. The strange thing is that (eycept with the print option) when I refresh the page, everything falls into place, and this warning disappears... which means - form me, a newbie - that there cannot really be a problem with the database, it a refresh can solve it... Once a page is refreshed, it works properly, but if I clean my browsing history and get back to the page, I need to refresh it again to have it properly displayed, as I get the same warning. Can anybody help me on this?
Thank you in advance!
