CMS Made Simple Forums

Well, I see the posts here asking about how to do a mobile. I see lots of well, thats easy - just a few tags, oh, just HTML. Etc.

Well, Its not that easy for many of us. My site has been up on CMSMS for several years. I do know some HTML, and no Smarty. What would be grand is if there was some tutorial that showed how to have a website fit based on the device. Are there any tuts for this?

I dont know everything - not a designer - but I can follow instructions pretty well. This CMS is simple to use if you just use a template and go, maybe do a few changes to the theme, but beyond that, forget it. I am stuck where I am. Cant do a lot because it is very difficult to get things to format, like forms for example. I finally hired someone and it looks great, but I am scared to change anything - I spent hours trying.

You guys are certainly believers, and I guess thats great. But these issues are why many people run to WP. I have a slew of WP websites because there are so many plugins that do everything, including Responsive. Plug and go. And they work great.

Why cant CMSMS be made so? It would make me SOOO happy.

Well, I can dream... But is there anything on how to make the site responsive?

Well, there's a few things to address here...

First, remember that CMSMS is targeted towards professional web developers. We're not WP, and have no intention of becoming WP. When making decisions about the direction of CMSMS, we assume the people installing it know HTML, CSS, Server Management, and are at least willing to get their feet wet with Smarty and possibly JS/jQuery/PHP.

The "Made Simple" part doesn't mean "Already Made For You" as is the case with CMSs with thousands of premade templates readily available. We make it easy for you to develop your sites, and easy for the end users to manage the content, but we don't do it for you. There's other CMSs which excel at this, our strengths lay elsewhere. There are some premade templates available, but this isn't our focus - custom websites and applications are what most CMSMS users create.

Now, that doesn't mean help isn't available. Here's what I'd do:

1. Look through https://developers.google.com/web/funda ... sive?hl=en
2. Look at a framework, such as Foundation or Bootstrap.
3. Have a look at existing CMSMS sites which are responsive, you can view the html and css of ANY web site, and quite easily include it in your templates. You don't even need to know much/any Smarty to make a responsive CMSMS site, but it certainly does help with advanced features.
4. Use a commercial template, such as from http://cmstemplatebuddy.com/ as a starting point. Make a backup, then tweak to your heart's content.
