reCaptcha not working with NMS

I'm using version 0.5.2 of Captcha and version 2.11.1 of NMS under CMSMS 2.1.3.
I've reset to stock templates but get the error "The text entered did not match the text in the captcha image" when trying to use the reCaptcha method.
hn_captcha and PhpCaptcha both work correctly. I've cleared the site cache, checked tmp/ and tmp/cache are 777, enabled debug via config but couldn't see anything in the debug.log, nor is there anything in the CMSMS Admin Log.
Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks in advance
