First of all: Listit2 isn't developed/maintained anymore. Alternative could be http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/lise
Next: if the developer didn't built in some intelligence for the search it will very hard/impossible to implement it yourself.
BTW: we all are used to Google auto-correction and it's other intelligent algoritmes but if you think about it it won't be easy to let an application (module) implement such intelligence.
