We are updating/moving/redesigning our site, and I was wondering if anybody had an opinion about this situation:

I work for an alumni association, and currently use CGCataloger to display books that people submit to our site. We have about 100 book listings at the moment. The listings are simple (author, title, short desc, image, link of where to purchase), and do not include a detail page, or categories.

I find it a little tedious to manage 100 extra pages in the site map for all these books. I have also noticed that while most people are interested in our book program, and go to the page, they are not interested enough to browse through the 10 or so pages of book listings.

I was considering moving these book listings into CGBlog instead of CGCataloger. Does anybody have an opinion on this. If there are benefits or limitations to either. Would there be another option to transition this to?

I have never heard of CGCataloger, I would have used Products...

Sorry, my mistake, it is called Cataloger.

I don't use Cataloger for the simple reason it adds clutter to the Pages.

I put standard pages in Pages then find the best module (like Products or CGBlog) for listing and organizing the other content.

Thank you! I was wondering if there are any downfalls to CGBlog for this sort of thing, but it doesn't sound like it. I am leaning towards CGBlog since I don't need a shopping cart, etc, functionality.

In the meantime, I was able to successfully export the cataloger pages from my old site into my new site using CGContent Utilities. I am so grateful for CGContent Utilities. Whoever out there created it. It was a massive time-saver! There were 100 pages.

Now I need to figure out if there is an easy way to transfer the content from Cataloger into CGBlog and I will be done!

The reason I said Products is that is what you are showing 'products/books' it doesn't have to be something you sell to use Products so no reason to add any of the e-com modules which is why it's made modular, it lets you add extra fields etc., to me CGBlog is for blogging...

Thank you. I was worried about the Products module slowing down the site. I see it does have a search feature which would be useful. Does the Products search work well?

Just an update on this topic. I have transferred a test batch of items into the products module, and I do like the way it works. I think it will also be more user-friendly, in the sense that any new additions could be added to an excel spreadsheet that could be easily uploaded (which would work well in our office).
