I am getting this error on the Module Manager page after upgrading from 1.5.4 to 1.6.9:

SOAP Problem (http://modules.cmsmadesimple.org/soap.p ... Repository): HTTP Error: Unsupported HTTP response status 404 Not Found (nu_soapclient->response has contents of the response)

Any ideas what this is and how to fix it?

You can disregard that error. Older versions of CMSMS used SOAP to communicate with the module repository. The repository itself no longer uses SOAP. Until you have upgraded up to CMSMS 1.8.2 (IIRC) you'll have to either use the XML or compressed files of the module releases.
