posting articles in different categories.. [SOLVED]

Hello everybody,
I know there are very little things that cannot be done in CMSMS, but I do know that there are some things that can work better if done in a certain way..
At the moment I am making a website for a journalist who would like to post a portfolio of articles on the website. The way this should work is that there will be a page with al the different categories (including the category title, a appropriate image and a small introduction). Like this: After clicking on specific category there will be a list of all the articles (with the title, picture and introduction). Ideally there should be an option to spread these articles over different pages. Like this: Clicking on an article here will lead you to the actual article's page where you can either read the article, see an image of the article or download the article (as jpg or pdf).
Obviously everything needs to be simple to edit and to add new articles and if necessary categories.
Also I would like to keep it neat and not have to make all the categories on different pages by hand, which would not allow for automatic updating if the names of the categories change or whatever..
Now, this is where I am a little bit stuck. What would be the best way to do this?
Firstly I was thinking of using the news module as it would be easy to list different things under different categories. But as the categories themselves don't have any option to add an image or an introduction that won't be any good.
Second thought was to make one parent page with all the different categories as sub pages under that with all the actual articles under those again. Thinking that I could show the menu of just the subpages on the first page etc. etc. But then again, also the menu doesn't allow for any images or introduction (or am I wrong?).
I hope you can help me with this and come up with a few good ideas. (she can't be the first with a portfolio like this on CMSMS!)
Thanks a lot!
Edwin
