Try SEOTools2 configured as recommended in

The post refers to CGBlog. News works the same way.

I'm sure there are some topics about this on the forum.
You don't need an extra module like SeoTools2 to make it work though it could make things easier. Personally I like to build the solution myself in the page template(s). That said, I don't know SeoTools2 very well, so it could well be it does a lot more intelligent stuff that I'm not even aware of.

What is your URL settings in the config? are you using Pretty-URLS?

You have a wrong canonical url in your template?
