Cataloger module dead?

Hi!
I just wondered ... I had a look at the forge, and the last cataloger version is from 2012. Unresolved bug reports go back to 2011.
Is cataloger still maintained?
I need to update an older website running cataloger. From what I could gather from the web, the latest cataloger version works with cmsms 1.11.1, albeit with a few quirks.
Would it be better to switch to a different module?
Cheers,
Alex

No, Cataloger is not dead. Yes it still is being maintained. It works fine in CMSMS 1.11.11. Next release is taking some time because it will be CMSMS 2.0 compatible and I didn't have much time to work on it lately.

I have used Products and ListIt2, both capable modules that list things in multiple different ways using templates. I've never used Cataloger though. Jo Morg, briefly what is the difference between Cataloger and Products/ListIt2 and is it particularly suited to a type of subject matter? Thanks

The main difference between Cataloger and modules such as Products/ListIt2 has to do with the fact that Cataloger is organized in content types, so you add pages as categories or as items, and with any kind of hierarchy you can think of, and it will be reflected immediately on the site menus. Together with a clever use of ContentAliases it allows to have the same items under multiple categories.
I'm in the process of introducing a few more features, to add to it's versatility, and of revamping the backend interface to make it more intuitive to use.
I've been using Cataloger for small to medium e-commerce sites, portfolios, art catalogs, car parts sellers... well pretty much anything that can be categorized in some way.
As I said, since last commit date (2013-10-22) I didn't have much time to pick up where I left it, but will in a short period of time, as I want it to be ready and tested sometime before CMSMS 2.0 is released.

This is really good news, as this is a really nice module, and it is damn easy to set up and operate. Well done.
Maybe you should write a small note in the forge page? It would sure help those who have to decide which module to use.
Any tipps for updating? The site runs under cmsms 1.7 (yai!) and cataloger 0.7.7 ...
Cheers,
Alex

Thanks Jo, that's very interesting, I will have to give Cataloger a try.

Kudos go to the original developer sjg

. I just took over the module.
And yes I'll update everything asap, I know that sometimes no news are not good news....
In theory, as long as you follow the
steps (and backup everything before) there should be no problems. You will have to leave (or set) the paths and urls in config.php (CMSMS 1.11.x doesn't needed them set but Cataloger still does).
