Can someone explain how to show news items on a page.

My page is 'Latest News' and I have tried adding.
{news number='10' showall="0" category='General'}

But nothing shows, I am sure this must be something quite simple.

Just {news} in the page content should do the trick.
Do you have articles published and with date in the past?

Firstly I have this code in the template sidebar div {news number='10'} and the news items display ok, clicking on one opens the Latest News page showing the item clicked on.
But what I am trying to do is display all items in the page when opening from the page tab or from an item. At the moment I only have four items all with dates. This is the latest code in the page content box I have at the moment. {news category='General' template='Summary_Simplex'} I tried pretty much every combination but nothing seems to work.

What I also don't understand is how the items in the sidebar open the news page am I working on the wrong page? The more I try the more confusing it becomes.
The 'Latest News' page alias is 'news'.
Like I have said I am sure there is a simple answer.

Not quite sure I understand what you're after. The code you posted {news category='General' template='Summary_Simplex'} will show just items in the General category, if you have news items in another category they won't show.

Content -> News -> Options tab -> "Detail View Settings" Default page to use for detail views
