Hi everyone,

Within the Products module is there any way to stop the product ID's being changed when updating items via CSV upload?

I have a fairly large product database and it makes far more sense to make updates via CSV than to go into each product individually.

The problem is when I update the products they are allocated new ID's which means that their URLs also change, so if links have been posted to the old URL then they become redundant.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

You mean the id in the database?

This is also the case for product options when they are updated which I don't see the sense in.

Yes I mean ID in the database, this also forms part of the URL unfortunately so every time you update via CSV the URL of the product changes.

Add it as a bug report, shouldn't do that in my eyes:

I can't really post a bug report as I'm not sure if this is the correct behaviour for the module. I agree with you that it shouldn't behave in this way though.

I'm hoping that calguy1000 or someone else will chime in as to whether this is a bug or correct behaviour for the module. If it is correct behaviour then is there a way for me to stop the IDs being changed?

AFAIK it is as designed, not a bug "per se", however you can file a feature request, and see what the developer answers.

Does anyone have a solution as to how I can stop the product ID's from changing when uploading via CSV file?

Sorry to give this a bump, but I still don't have a solution and it's imperative to the project I'm working on. Anyone got any ideas as to how I can stop the product ID's from updating when performing a CSV upload/update?
