Images - thumbnail to zoom to full size

I'm planning what I need to do for a client's website using CMSMS ... and I'm a newbie 
They want one page showing approximately 4-8 images down the left side with a description beside them on the right.
If their website visitor clicks any image, they would like it to zoom in to a larger view.
I've had a look at the Modules available, and I am not sure whether I need a photo image module, or just add a hyperlink to the thumbnails to go to a larger photo. The client has suggested they may want more thumbnails visible after the first click to 'zoom'.
Any suggestions?
The client will need to be able to change images easily themselves.
