Hi All,
I’ve been having numerous issues with pages not loading via page editor. Last time I ran in de-bug mode and found an issue with YouTube player. Deleted that and all was well for a bit.
Now I’m getting the “white page treatment” again. So I re-run in de-bug and keep getting the Fatal Error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 Bytes Exhausted…when I try to load most pages (most=sometimes I get lucky). CPanel Error logs don't show memory issues.
These error messages all seem to point to MicroTiny/lib/class.microtiny_utils.php.
Great, I’ll open an old clone of the site (v 1.11.4) uninstall MicroTiny, install TinyMCE and try that.
That did the trick so to make sure I make another clone, this time of the current published site (v1.11.9) and do the same thing. So far so good, I can now open Global Settings which I couldn’t with MicroTiny installed (with MicroTiny installed I can’t open MicroTiny WYSIWYG via Extension manager menu either). So now I can open pages no problem again but now although the checkbox is ticked to Use WYSIWYG all I see is the html content, no WYSIWYG interface at all. TinyMCE is selected as editor in My Preferences/User Preferences and also in Global Settings.
Thinking maybe TinyMCE doesn’t work with v1.11.9 I downloaded a fresh copy of cmsmadesimple-1.11.9-full.tar This I unzip and overwrite my existing MicroTiny folder contents in modules via FTP in the hope that when I re-install it and switch off TinyMCE perhaps the issue will fix itself. It hasn’t.

The site proper that all the fuss is about is at http://www.historypoints.org/
Me and the site editor are saving up to go VPS so we can throw an extra 1GB of memory at our effort but that won't be this week. I mention that as memory is a common theme with these issues. This time however the problem seems to be a chunk of code I/we have somehow broken.
Site runs sweet as a nut just uninstalling MicroTiny, problem is my editor friend doesn't speak html.
Any help gratefully accepted.

You could try to deactivate unused or not every time needed modules like CMSMailer, ModuleManager and ThemeManager.

Deactivated those modules with no effect. Still no sign of WYSIWYG interface for TinyMCE and reverting back to MicroTiny showed no changes. Curious how I can't open Global Settings if MicroTiny set as editor in MyPreferences.

Do you get the same error message in debug mode you open the global settings page?

How many pages does your website have? I ask cause it's not easy to use so much memory with a website like yours.

Assuming MicroTiny set as default WYSIWYG editor in MyPreferences, I don't get a Fatal Error trying to open Global Settings. It just doesn't open at all.
Also, it doesn't matter if I have WYSIWYG set to none in Global Settings (after setting it to none in MyPreferences) I cannot open MicroTiny from the Extensions menu at all. This is the resultant error message when I try to open MicroTiny from Extensions Menu:

The error changes to this if I set Micro Tiny to default in MyPref's

Forgot to say, inc' iframe google maps, foreign language translations etc the site currently has 3492 pages. In page editor we work with all sections collapsed bar the parent and children of whatever page we're working on at the time.

Wow, think you have crossed a magic borderline. Current CMSMS version makes some trouble with such a lot pages. Hope it will be much more better in the upcoming version 2 with the new CMSContentManager.

By the way - MicroTiny is only a trigger not the reason for your collapsing administration.

Another thing you can try to get lower memory needs is to delete all unused language files in /admin/lang/ext

With CMSMS 1.x we tell people that you're pushing things (on most sites) with more than 500 or so pages. ... and if displaying specialized content types (blog articles, products, or other specialized data types you are best using a module designed specifically for that type of data).

With CMSMS 2.0 I have successfully tested with 8000 pages on my normal (stock ubuntu installation on a VM). with good results in the admin interface.

The frontend interface will still be subject to memory limitations depending upon how you build your navigation.

Big thanks for your help and advice guys. Looks like I'm expecting too much from the resources to hand.
I'm going to put this issue as [SOLVED] for the time being and book an account transfer to a VPS system starting with 2GHz cpu and 2GB ram. Hopefully that will help with server side issues, at least when I figure out how to work it . Anybody know any easy to read books on VPS?
Then I'll do an upgrade to 1.11.10 Pinzon and see how things work then.

Because of the way PHP works just getting a VPS with 2GB of ram WILL NOT solve your problem. PHP's standard RAM allocation is 128mb. though you could increase it to say 256mb with a VPS I think your site would become unacceptably slow (in both the admin and frontend) when you do this.

You need to re-engineer your site in 1.11.x so that you have less pages.

Cheers, Calguy. I'll have a chat with my pal the editor and try to temper his ambitions. Thinking about it there are ways we can reduce the number of pages without losing content. Simply tranfering content from some child pages to parent will make for longer parents but fewer children, ergo fewer pages.

I think using a module for this may be a better option than to have so many pages...
