I'm hoping someone can help me. Yesterday I added content to our website and everything was working okay. Today, I tried to access our website and it took a long time for the page to load. When it did, it said:

Database Connection Failed
Error: Too many connections (1040)
Function Performed: CONNECT
Host/DB: localhost/scshelter
Database Type: mysql

Fatal error: Attempt to connect to database scshelter on scshelter@localhost failed in /var/www/domains/scshelter.org/www/lib/adodb.functions.php on line 85

I have no idea what to do to get it to work. Thank you so much for your advice and help.

My first guess would be problems with database server not CMSMS.

Ask your sys admin/hosting provider if there are problems with server(s).

Thanks for your comment. That day it was our database server (Dreamhost). We are having problems again today though. This time it seems to be connected to CMS Made Simple.

We get the following message:

The following directories must be writable by the web server:
tmp/cache
tmp/templates_c

Please correct by executing:
chmod 777 tmp/cache
chmod 777 tmp/templates_c
or the equivilent for your platform before continuing.

The website was working fine yesterday and I haven't made any changes since then. I'm confused what could be causing this problem.

This is a file system related issue. You have to grant write permissions on /tmp folder and its subfolders.

Temporary hosting issues again? The site is looking fine now.
