Old site revamped.

Hi Everyone.
After finishing some client sites, I have finally been able to revamp my old site and give it a new look as well as upgrading it to use CMSMS. There is not to much over-coding and the header uses the very nice random image plugin. It validates xhtml transitional OK, but I still need to fix a bug to validate the css... need to buy some more candles to work with first though...
Let me know what you think... Good or bad.

What I like: Your design, the colors; the whole layout does not change after hiting contr and + (on safari/mac). For me it is very important that the current link is highlighted, there are a lot of cmsms-sites without this.
What I would change: I would place the NEWS-module only on the index page. I miss on the pages with subpages (webdesign, photography) the links to the subpages in the content area. Later on the subpage "webdesign" I would put a breadcrumb navigation, just to guide the users. For some reasons the index-page moves about 15px to the right.
What's about your url adresses? It is not better
http://www.19sixtyone.co.uk/photography (without /index.php/)?
How did activate the highlighting of the current link?
Regards, neophron

The Home page moves to the right because for that page there is nog right hand side scrollbar needed, due to the length of that page. I don't know if there is a fix for this, but if someone knows a trick I'm very interested.
When you click on a newsitem, the newspage is displayed with the title of the page you were coming from. You have to make a seperate template for the newpage in which you can place a tag for the newstitle.

Thanks for that.
Not sure what you mean by news template, I thought it would do this automatically. Could you be a little more specific please.

I like it

it is just clean.
Just a question, the picture you have on the homepage, the one with the old shop. Isn"t it from a place called black country? A museum about the coal. If that is the cas, I went there once but I can't remember where it was in england. Can you tell me

Hi Gogou.
Thanks for the comment. As for the picture it was taken at a rural life museum in Norfolk called Gressenhall. It is an old english workhouse.

I like the business look and the great scharp foto's of your website. But if this is the front for a company which main target is webdesign i think the pictures should be more webdesign like.
I think that the the titlebar with 19 sixty one is a bit to large or you can put the menubar on top of it. just a feeling.
If this was a website for photographs don't change it.
About the News. When a newsitem is selected it opens in the standard Template. In this Template there is the titletag {title}
Because the newsitem does not have this tag, it shows the titletag for the last page you visited. You have to make a copy of the standard template and remove the titletag {title}.
Good luck.

I have looked in the summary and detail templates but they do not have this title tag you mention, could you expand please.

Hi Neophon.
To highlight the current link, you add this to your css:
a:active { color: #993333; }
If you look at my site with Firefox, you will be able to view my css and copy what you need. If you don't have Firefox, let ne know and I'll send you my css file.
Regards.

Thanks Loken.
It's really nice to get the positive feedback, especially for me as I am a self-taught amateur designer.
Feel free to copy the code if you can use it.
Bless you.
Mike.

Mike, if you're serious about Web designing I'd watch those spelling and typo errors.
"Catagory" should be "Category" and "photo's" doesn't have an apostrophe, it's "photos". You're better off using "photographs"
Potential clients will pick up on these and won't be too impressed!
Other than that I like the design and look of the site.
Cheers

Hi Freddieb.
Many thanks for the corrections and warning. I have (hopefully) corrected all the typo errors you mentioned.
Unfortunately, apart from being deaf I am also dislexic and so can make some rather simple but silly mistakes.
Many thanks for the help and praise.
Bless you.
Mike.

Hi Mike,
it is more simpel than I thought, I was just wondering how to highlight (in CMSMS) the current link. I used to highlight the current link with body ID, ul li a ID and a little bit CSS.
Thanks, neophron
