I work for a school and created a great CMS site, but we have some teachers who have Mac os 9.0 ith Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 for MAC. When the pages comes up, the header image shows up behind the menu and content and the menus dont work. Has anyone found a way to get CMS sites to work with OS9.0 and older browsers?
I know, I know... Please dont respond with "have them buy a new computer!" I need to get this to work to go live.
Thanks
MJD

Okay it's not OS9 ... its ie5 for mac as it's broken in OSX Mac as well...
You'll have to cobble a separate hacksheet to work around the positioning issues... it's not a huge task and I don't mind bashing a separate sheet together for you, what's your deadline?

Okay even the official CMSMS site dies a cold death with ie5.... however you could try getting your OS9 users to switch to iCab as it's built for Os9 and OSX... I don't have an OS9 machine here but the OSX version renders your site (and this one) perfectly...
http://www.icab.de/downlod.php
Let me know if you need me to tweak the css for ie5

Thanks for the info! I tried the site today on OS9 with the iCab and it is still garbled. I created a pretty nice site for our schools so teachers can update their own pages, but we arent allowed to go live until the OS9 issue has been resolved. So if you could offer any help, I would appreciate it.
here is the site and I can send os9 screen shots if needed:

Thanks!

Hey,
Are you saying it is possible to write soemthing that will allow OS 9.0 users the ability to view the site? If so, you'd be the hero around here. My boss told me today (after months of learning this program) that if we cant support the OS9.0 clients, we cant put the site up. So if you have any insight, I'd appreciate it.
Let me know if you need anything from the site.
Thanks,
MJD

You can feed MS Mac different styles. You just need to figure out what is wrong. It maybe best to go to a specialist list like CSS:Discuss, where there are a number of IE Mac experts who can probably solve your problems. If you feel like doing it yourself, check out Google... "IE Mac CSS" - loads of stuff.
IE Mac was suprisingly web standards compliant in it's day, so it's probably just a few quirks you need to find and remove.

p.s. surprised you can get away with 'flyout menus' for such a site. Not particularly accessible? You may also want to look at text re-sizing and see what happens?
p.p.s I'm also seeing some errors in the html, even though it validates??
line 118 column 6 - Warning: escaping malformed URI reference
line 220 column 4 - Warning: trimming empty
Not sure what this is.
Hope this helps
