Users and Groups - Newbie Question

I can't find any documentation about setting up new Groups and relevant permissions.
Is this how it works:
I set up a Group, and add a new User.
If I don't grant that Group any special permissions, I they can still modify pages they own.
I also want them to be able to add new pages, but only to specified sections - if I give the group permissions to 'Add Pages', they seem to be able to add to any section at all.
How can I limit them to a specific section?
Most importantly, is there any documentation on this (the users/groups pages in the main docs remain unwritten)??
thanks
mark

Hi Mark,
I'm sorry I can't help w/ answers... I write to second your voice that I also don't know if it's possible and, if it is, how one goes about setting permissions for users to add/edit pages in only certain sections and such features.
If you come across anything that might be helpful or have already figured it out, I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Rob

This (IMHO) is a place where CMSMS is sadly lacking. As I understand it, you can let users edit pages they own, or assign them as additional editors for pages others own, but it has to be on a page by page basis. You can't control the editors of certain groups of pages, etc. (I think)... I would love to see this functionality, as well as a workflow system (where pages can be set as pending, pending approval by an admin, etc.) In an ideal world, this would include the ability to have multiple reviews/approvals before a page is published (copyrighter writes the page, then sends to marketing for approval; marketing signs off and sends to sales; sales signs off and sends to legal; legal signs off and publishes the page)...

It's all on the roadmap.... group based permissions, and workflow system. at least the workflow system is slated for 1.1. Hopefully I get a chance to work on the permissions stuff, I'd really like to do that. It should be group based (unix like) instead of user based, and the permissions need to be flushed out a bit more, but it'll get there.
