When i go into module manager i get
Although a connection was successfully made to the specified module repository. It appears that this repository is not yet sharing any modules
Last known problem like this was back in 2008? - is it my CMSMS or is it really down?

How very odd. I have now checked 3 sites AMD I am getting the same message.
I go into module manager and try to look through the A to Z index of modules to install. The letter A seems ok but many of the others are sparse and S has no content. I had gone in to add Showtime slideshow. That was when (I could see them all then) I pressed instal and after that the page had no content where it would normally have the "you have succeeded" I got a blank page.

Thanks for all of your help so far
I have been into the Module and tags and no X etc
Here is a better account of what is happening now is that when i try to download a new module and instal via the "download and install" link on the module manage alphabetic page i get a blank screen appears.
Another thought i have had is i have just added several new security products to the server - could they be stopping the operation of the install?

- These are the installed modules

Module manager is working OK for me at the moment.

Yes. The code in the module manager page makes calls to external sites to display the list of modules and grab the code for the module you want to install. I can well believe some security products would find that behaviour suspicious enough to block. If you list what you installed someone cleverer than me might be able to help further.

I mean you needed to go to Site admin > System Information page to look for yellow ! or red X...
Extensions > Modules will only show you what modules you have...

Thanks to you all for your input - it was in fact my own stupid fault as i had not upped the PHP settings on the server. Many of my writes and sizes were too small.
It is so easy when you know how!!! LOL
Thanks again
