Hi

Our website has is currently running CMS Made Simple 1.6.5 "Poya" and has alot of bespoke code and amendments made. I have been asked to test the upgrade of the the CMSMS engine to the latest 1.1.4 at the time of writing this in a virtual machine.

I was seeking advise on the following:

Virtual machine setup
Process for upgrading to the latest CMSMS
What are the features available to use using the new release.

Thanks in advance.

Have you read: http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/upgrading
and: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/viewforum.php?f=1
and you could also download the .tar.gz file of the latest release and read the doc/CHANGELOG.txt file.

Hi

I will be setting up a test vm to perform the upgrade test. As we do not have the 1.6.5 cms install can i install 1.11.4 and import the full backup from 1.6.5?

you can't import 1.6.5 in a 1.11.4 as the database structure isn't the same. You must update step by step als described on http://docs.cmsmadesimple.org/upgrading under Steps for Upgrading from an Old Version.

If it is a small website, it's sometimes easier to transfer the webpages manually.

understanding this correctly then..

If I create a hyperv VM for the purpose of testing the upgrade and download/install 1.6.5 and restore my full backup from the website then upgrade to versions 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 1.10 and 1.11 in sequence.

What version of linux is advised for the server?
