[solved] Attempt to upgrade from 1.10.3 turns in to install

I start from 1.10.3 with these modules.

CMSMailer: 2.0.2
CMSPrinting: 1.0
FileManager: 1.2.0
MenuManager: 1.7.7
MicroTiny: 1.1.1
ModuleManager: 1.5.3
News: 2.12.3
Search: 1.7
ThemeManager: 1.1.4
TinyMCE: 2.9.11
Showtime: 3.2
CGExtensions: 1.30
CGCalendar: 1.10.0.1
Gallery: 1.6
Statistics: 1.1.3
SiteMapMadeSimple: 1.2.6

I backup the site & database.

I upgrade 2 modules through Module Manager Available Upgrades tab (CGExtensions to 1.31 & TinyMCE to 2.9.12). I clear cache.

I overwrite all files with version 1.11.4-english. I go to my /install/ page. First page says Install/Update. Press the button. Second page says Install System - 1st of 7 steps. It goes through the initial install process including setting up a main admin user, etc. I don't see the usual Upgrade screens.

I then tried again (restoring my backup) but instead of overwriting with 1.11.4, I overwrite with 1.11. The same thing happens.

Any ideas on how to get this site upgraded? ???

Thanks!

FPJS

I might be wrong.... but I always used the <root>/install/upgrade.php directly to upgrade, instead of install.php. Or is that what you are doing and not working?

Thanks for the (super-quick) reply.

The process of extracting the .tar.gz file creates a directory called install. I visit <root>/install in a browser. (I've done that before in other (successful) upgrades).

The first page is headed "Install/Update". This is good.

The second page (after I press the button on the first page) is headed "Install System". This is bad. :'(

ok... I just checked: upgrading
and step 7 is:
7. Navigate your browser to /install/upgrade.php
Not sure why did it work for you previously. I remember that I never did it the way you described :)

Well it looks like I was lying when I said
(I've done that before in other (successful) upgrades).
I have just done what I described in my original post but going to <root>/install/upgrade.php and I have successfully upgraded straight from 1.10.3 to 1.11.4 (current latest).

I don't know what made me think that just <root>/install worked. I blame too much screen-time this week...

Anyway, thank you Jo Morg! ;D
