FrontEndUsers - From Sessions to Cookies

OK, so I've been asked to change the way FrontEndUsers handles logins - no more sessions, we want cookies now, so that when someone comes back, they don't have to constantly enter their username/password.
Any thoughts on where I should start? My PHP proficiency is beginner level.

That'd be great if I had any idea what I was reading.

Actually, I'd look at it if I have time, which I don't at the moment.... unless there's an incentive ?
