Flash Navigation, where to begin?

Hi, currently learning cmsms (and css) and working on my own portfolio site at the same time.
I'm not sure wether I would want to use flash at all, but I tnink it would be really neat if it somehow be possible to dynamically create the menu's in flash (cool rollovers and typography).

I'm pretty good with actionscript, but not so good in php and really have no idea how the dynamic menu's in cmsms actually work.
Anyone ever tried someting like this before?

Where to start....??
cheers
Peter

Rollovers and typo. can be controlled with CSS, I see no need for flash menus.

If you go to my site, the word Link in Got Link at bottom, you will see some Image map menus all done with CSS.

Don't waste your time on "flashy" gadgets. Make your site usable first. And produce real, original, one-of-a-kind content...

Relying on Flash for navigation is one of the worst mistake you can make. Even the creators of Flash, Adobe, don't use Flash menus without answering this crucial question first : what's plan B? What happens if the visitor hasn't Flash enabled?

You can make as pretty menus with CSS than Flash. And remember that, for a lot of users, sites made with Flash are now synonymous of "stylish but useless, contentless, irritatingly slow and linear empty shells".

Hmmm... I understand your scepsis concerning flash. But I use it alot for particular projects. I do alot websites that are mostly visual: portfolio sites for artists, photographers and fashion designers. I really think Flash (with php) is a good tool ( not the only one) for that kinda thing. Stylisch, yes! Empy, no. I think the target audience of those sites all have flash installed.

But I agree on it being misused alot.
I think I will try all css first and not to stick to what i know best (actionscript).

Here's a small mockup. there's no content yet. Just a test.

I've also done extensive color changes to a menu, it could also use images.

If you look at the products in the menu you will see diff. colors for all the diff. products, at rest and on hover.

I've got this same question. I've just got a new project where my client's wish is to have a flashbased website. Since the costumer is always king, i will have to stay open for all wishes.

I would like to know is: how can i achieve "dynamic flash navigation" within CMSMS?

For a good example:

http://www.templatemonster.com/website- ... /8942.html

a dynamic flash navigationmenu within the header. So if i add new content, it will be added to the flashmenu
