SelfRegistration - Password Verification doesn't work

I've installed the SelfRegistration module on the most recent version of CMSMS - 1.11.2. I'm also using the latest version of all of the module dependencies.
If a new user signs up and uses special characters in their password such as "!@#$%^&*", they are unable to complete the verification process. Instead. the module will output the following message:
ERROR: Passwords dont match
The user is then stuck in the SelfRegistration table and there is no way to move that user to the FrontEndUser tables.
Has anybody else experienced this and if so do you know of a way to remedy the the situation? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
BB
