Just wondered what peoples thoughts are. I think I might start using ListIt2 over News. Just came across it and it seems pretty awesome.

As nice ListIt2 is, do not use it for everything

sure it can be used as News as well but you should do a checklist, what do you need and what not.
ListIt2 has no category action, where News for example does, so if you want pages by category you will have to add these as content pages and call ListIt2 each time.
Also News in 1.11 Core has better caching capabilities, is using less DB queries which overall means page with News articles will be rendered faster then page with ListIt2.
Moral of the story is, do not use one module for everything you might imagine, check what you need, search for modules that were built for that purpose and then decide what you will use.

I do like the news module. But I like the way ListIt2 handles pretty urls on pagination. Some developers don't deem this as important I know. I have seen a few modules that allow this but for some reason it has not appeared in this core module yet. Is there any reason for this?

I use jquery cycle plugin to make pagination in News and other modules, it will make numbers, 1 2 3 4 etc. or left/right nav buttons or both...
