Hi,

I just bought myself a new android 4 tablet so i could manage a CM 8) SMS 1.5.4 site while on the road. I've tried every browser available to me but can't paste copy in to the FCK editor. It just does nothing.

I've pretty much wasted a bunch of money if I cant make this work.

Does anyone know how I might make this work?

Maybe some third party app that will allow me to copy and paste

version 1.5.4 is nu longer supported and isn't safe. So upgrade as quick as possible to the latest 1.10.3.

I think you're out of luck.

CMSMS 1.5.4 is over 3 years old, long before tablets were released. Even CMSMS 1.11 probably can't be edited well from a tablet. We're working on stuff for CMSMS 1.11, but it'll only be a start.

It's important to keep software up to date for many reasons.

I just tried editing a CMSMS 1.10.3 website with my Android HTC Desire HD mobile. It works. It's not pretty or easy though.

The website I managed to update uses MicroTiny editor (standard editor for that release of CMSMS) and I had to go in and view HTML to be able to actually edit a page. In WYSIWYG page edit mode the phone does not realise it is a text area and so does not present the on-screen keyboard when you click in to the area.

So, in an emergency, yes it works. But not something you'll want to do every day.

I tried an older site (1.9.4.1) which uses TinyMCE editor, no luck there even when viewing HTML.

As the others have said, you should upgrade the site anyway, regardless of whether or not it's going to help you edit it on the road.

Let us know how it goes. It's an interesting subject that will only get more relevant with time.

I very much appreciate the input. Indeed and actual Android app would be ideal however, this is well beyond my skill level.

I will try the different editors.

So I understand. Calguy, are you saying that on a newer version of CMS that you think this would work?

My other problem is that I've never done a CMS version upgrade. I'm running it with a custom template/theme that was built for me and fear that an attempt at upgrade could make for a very bad day.

Perhaps I'll install the latest release on a test host and try to manage it from the tablet. If it helps then perhaps it will be worth looking at the version update for the live site.

That's what I do.. Replicate and test the site in a subdirectory (copy the database as well), upgrade, test, then roll it out to the live site. I do the same for module upgrades on complicated sites.

From a bit of googling it appears that:
tinymce does not work in android...
you are forced to disable the wysiwyg editor and edit html manually.
tinymce does not work on IOS either, though there may be some code in tinymce to detect IOS and to disable the wysiwyg editor automatically.

ckeditor does not work in IOS or Android ...so it's not like we can go to an 'alternate' editor.

In essence: you're pooched.

This is looking grim.

Anyone know someone who can build android apps?

Okay, got my new android tablet today.

And here's the good news... in a fresh 1.10.3 install the wysiwyg editor was visible... but not very usable. it was possible to insert an image, and a link... selecting text worked, but trying to 'bold' that selected text or underline it was very very clunky.
