Upgrade failed on a client's site, need help quick

Hi. I'm running The site is running on CMS Made Simple 1.3 "Cuba". I'm using Linux / Shared Hosting
Hosting Configuration: 2.0 on GoDaddy. MySQL 5.2.

I tried upgrading to CMSMS 1.10.3 - Hyacinthe. Did not work.
So I tried an upgrade to version 1.9.4.3. Still errors.
So I tried restoring my original database (successful) and restoring the old files from 1.3 Cuba.
When I go to this URL:
http://www.nationaldayofthecowboy.com/c ... pgrade.php
I get this error message:
Database Connection Failed
Error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) (2002)
Function Performed: CONNECT
Host/DB: localhost/cms
Database Type: mysql

When I go to this URL: http://www.nationaldayofthecowboy.com/cms/index.php (which should be the website live), the URL changes to this: http://www.nationaldayofthecowboy.com/c ... siontest=1&
With the page showing up for Install System, the checklist to go through for the final install.

I'm panicking now because I need to get the site pages back up. I don't have a printed copy of the pages with content. I don't know how to fix this problem. And I don't know where the page content can be found.

Thanks for any help
From a Rookie

You are missing your original config.php probably

When you reverted back did you delete all folders/files and upload a clean batch of the backup folder/files, you may be getting a call from a newer file that shouldn't be in there from trying to upgrade...

I just today upgraded 3 sites to 1.9.4.3, one on 1.2, one on 1.2.1, one on 1.4.1, going in steps, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9.4.3...

I'm getting closer but site is still down. I looked at the config.php file and it was blank. I have several other sites I use CMS on, so I edited a config.php file from one of those sites to the dbase path to this site, www.nationaldayofthecowboy.com.

Loaded up the edited config.php file and received an error message that there was an error on line 5 of the file "modules/MenuManager/method.upgrade.php. I pulled up this same file from another website I manage and replaced that line, uploaded the file and received this error message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting '(' in /home/content/n/a/t/natcowboy/html/cms/modules/NeoGallery/NeoGallery.module.php on line 104

NeoGallery.module.php line 104 code is:
THIS IS LINE 104 function SetParameters() {
// $this->RestrictUnknownParams();
$this->RegisterModulePlugin();

Neo Gallery is a module my client added to the site. Don't know what to do now.

I hope you are doing this in a folder in the root as a subfolder install so the site can continue to run, some 3rd party modules aren't ready for newer versions of CMSMS, you can rename non core folders till it fully upgrades then rename them back one at a time till you find ones that throws errors and go from there...

Dr. CSS: Thank you for replying. Yes I have files in a folder. I actually am getting the errors now after reloading the old CMS Version 1.3 Cuba. I just want to the site to be running correctly and then worry about an upgrade. I did get the site to show up but the menu system is not there, so can't get very far within the site right now.

Boy, I have this all messed up. I know just enough to be dangerous, obviously.
