When I change codding from ANSI to UTF-8 extra sign appears

Hi there,
I use Notepad++ for editing tpl files. I created two templates for menu. When codding is set to ANSI, menu is generated correctly. When I change file codding to UTF-8 an extra sign is added in the output.
In FF and Opera it causes a problem. Menu Box has an extra, empty line on the top.
In tpl i use some {if}s with Cyrillic, so I need utf-8.
Do you have any idea what happens and how to solve my problem?
