Question: Products Module Import Feature Plans

Post by ridemore »

I'm trying to provide an online catalog of currently available product items using the latest CMSMS and Products Module. The current Products module import capability appears to be limited in that you can only import/update one "category" of product at a time.

Unless I'm missing something, this is obviously very inefficient if you have many categories of products to maintain on a regular basis. I'd like to be able to just update the Products module catalog with one export from Quickbooks on, say, a weekly.

Is there a better mechanism/facility for importing a large and diverse product catalog, with different categories and hierarchy fields, all in the same import file?

If not, are there any plans to support this with the Products module or a new module in the future?

Please advise, thank you.

See the test_import.csv file that is shipped with the products module.

Thanks Calguy. I've actually successfully used the test_import.csv file. It seems to support multiple Hierarchy fields but looks like you have to specify each category and use a "0" or "1" to select which category to import into.

Seems like I tried to just use "#CAT" but it didn't work. The "#HIER" field tag does work fine with different hierarchies. Is there a way to make the "#CAT" tag work the same way?
