Database connection problem while installing CMSms

Hello,

I'm trying to install CMSms 1.9.4.2 on my laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop edition. I've installed apache2, php5, mysql-server and phpmyadmin packages. So I ended up with Apache 2.2.14, PHP 5.3.2, MySQL 5.1.41 and PHPmyAdmin 3.3.2. The server is running on localhost (127.0.1.1) .

When I get to the database step of the installation it gives me the error that it can' t connect to the database and that I should check my username and password. I've tried it with both the root user and a user specificaly created for the CMSms database. The MySQL status in phpmyadmin also shows no failed connections.

Hope you can help me with what im doing wrong.

Thanks in advance,
Lysera

After toying around a few more hours I tried again after dinner and then it worked for some reason. So problem solved :) . Still don't know what the problem was, but it works now so I'm satisfied.

Out of curiosity, why are you running it locally instead of just installing it in the destination host? I have spent much time in the past getting it to work locally, and then when I transfer it to the host, having to spend more time getting it to work there because of differences. Why not just install it on the host and design your site there?

This weekend there is a horse contest which me and my parents make photo's at. During the day we sell those photo's as prints, so the people have to look for the photo's. Normally I would copy the photo's to both of the laptops which can be used to view the photo's, but when I saw the gallery module I thought it was way easier that way.

So thats why i want to run it locally :)
