access pages edit-mode only possible with certain pcs - why?

hi,
i have an cmsms-page, working perfectly already for some time. now i gave access to a new user. in testing if his access works, i logged in with his password an login-name and everything works fine. but the user reports that he cannot access pages in edit mode. he tried it in ie and firefox on his windows laptop and failed. the sand clock symbol appeared and nothing more happened. i tried it again and succeeded (on mac and on windows, both with firefox).
does anybody have a guess, what could be the reason for the user's problems?
