I FTP'd my photos into a folder I created under Uploads/Images. But there are no thumbnails. How do I get the thumbnails to appear. The larger photos appear and work fine, but no thumbnails. Doesn't the tool make the thunbnails automatically?

No, you must open the folder where you uploaded your images with the ImageManager... it's he that generates the thumbnails.

Okay, I deleted the files out of the folder I created for the imagegallery. Then I went back in and uploaded each photo file again. They still do not appear.  ???

Better yet...can I get rid of the "index" text/link so I can bypass the thumbnails altogether? Then I can just link directly to the big image and viewers can just click through the photos. How can I take out the "index" text?

The thumbnail photos don't show up in the image manager. Only the white boxes with the red x in the center show -- for all my images in the image manager. Is there maybe some other problem?

Yes, I would prefer as well to get created missing thumbnails on the fly. As the upload form offers only one upload field at the same time it takes a very long time to upload many images each by each. Therefore I often use ftp.

Sure, I can create the thumbnails by hand and upload them via ftp ...

Another solution would be to offer more upload fields the same time .. like this (GMX Media Center):
