Cannot update news atricles after upgrade to 1.9.2.

Hello CMSMS experts,

I upgraded my site to 1.9.2 by uploading all the files from the new version over the old ones, then running the upgrade script. It upgraded fine but the TinyMCE tool bar stopped showing, I tried everything but fixed it in the end by downgrading it to an older version.

Now I have noticed that news items cannot be updated. If I go to CONTENT >> NEWS in ADMIN and update an existing article, then press SUBMIT it says 'The Article was successfully updated.' but it's not actually changed.

I uninstalled the module and reinstalled it again and then I could update articles but all the 100's of news items had disappeared, I got my server chap to restore the news tables so now the articles are back but I can't update them still.

I have a feeling that this might be a permissions problem however surely it would say the items has NOT been updated. I don't really know where to start with this so if someone could offer some help that would be muchly appreciated.

My very kindest regards
Richard

Upgraded from what version, did your server have the latest PHP, did you check system info page to see if any yellow ! or red X, are you sure your permissions are correct on the modules and tiny folders, mine needs 755 to run correctly...

Hi Dr. CSS,

Thank you for your very quick reply. The version I upgraded from was 1.4.1. PHP version is 5.2.17. There were no red crosses on the upgrade by may have been some yellow entries on the upgrade, I didn't notice any (doh!). My modules folder is 755, my TinyMCE, News and all sub folders are also 755. All the file in these directories are 644.

I've just checked the SYSTEM INFORMATION from SITE ADMIN menu. I have one red X next to httpdocs folder (site is installed in the root). Permissions on this are 850. I've tried 777 but it didn't make any difference. Then I have a yellow exclamation mark next to Maximum Post Size (It's set to 8mb) and next to Session Save Path (No check because open basedir active). Also yellow exclamation mark next to PHP Open Basedir (/var/www/vhosts/<sitename>/httpdocs/:/tmp/). Other than that everything is green.

Sorry for not providing this information up front, I didn't know what would be needed, should have used my head eh?!

My kindest regards
Richard

The next thing to check is if you are full admin and have rights to post to News...

Yep, tried two different accounts, both with admin privileges.

Kindest regards

I bet you upgraded from CMSMS 1.4 directly to CMSMS 1.9.2.. and something probably went wrong with the upgrade.

We do not test upgrading from such old versions of CMSMS, and recommend people go in stages when they are THAT far behind. i.e: 1.4 to 1.5, then to 1.6, then 1.7, etc. Verifying that everything works properly after each upgrade step. Sorry, but if you are upgrading from such an old version there isn't much we can do to help.

The proper solution to 'fix' this problem now would be to compare the database schema from the schema you currently have to one of a fresh install of CMSMS 1.9.2, and add any necessary fields. because there is a possibility that other things have gone wrong during the upgrade.

Hi Chaps,

Thank you both for your responses. The server is a Linux PC running Centos 64 with Plesk Control Panel, not Windows.

I read the readme file with the install instructions that came with the downloaded new version and that didn't mention about the progressive upgrade steps. I wish it told me that as now I'm left with a web site that I can't update and a very unhappy charity customer (British Divers and Marine Life Rescue).

I'll check the db structure and compare as recommended. Thank you.

Thanks for your help anyway, I appreciate your time.
Richard

You don't have access to a DB back up?...

First thing you do when upgrading a site is to get a full back up of all folders/files and the DB that way when things like this happen you can revert back to a good running copy of site and progress forward in upgrading it...

Hi Dr CSS,

I typed the message without switching my brain on, however it's on now and the restore is in progress.

Thanks
Richard
