phpbb intergration

Dear developers

Im currently working on a website for a lan party.
Im well known with CMS MS development but now im facing another challenge.

What i like to do is use the phpBB forum software as a basic frontend login for multiple features.
Think of features as registring your self to the lan party, pay and such

The target is to connect the forumaccounts to everything.

But if i start with writing a module for it and i use the common.php from phpbb then i get problems with dublicated functions and classes between CMS MS and phpBB
Any suggestions?
