Plugin for password protected area?

I have searched around the site and Forum, so pardon my question.
Is there a way to password protect an area or pages?

what did you use for search phrases??? this question has been asked and answered 1000 times... :o
But since you asked nicely, here's 1001: use a combination of FrontEndUsers and CustomContent modules, with SelfRegistration if you need users to register themselves for access.
