funky login after upgrade

just upgraded to 1.8.2
i enter login info and am redirected to /install/upgrade.php, which doesn't go anywhere since i deleted the install directory
if i navigate to /admin i see that the login worked and i am in at the cms home page.
anyone know why i keep being redirected to /install/upgrade.php when i try to login?
