What does the "CMS-linker link-style" option do?

In the TinyMCE Advanced tab there are two options for "CMS-linker link-style". What are the implications of choosing one option rather than the other?
I have a site to build that contains a large number of internal links and I'd like to understand this feature before I get too far in. Thanks.

One makes the link like so the link text...
The otherĀ {cms_selflink dir="page alias" text="Text of link"}...
If you want to use images use the fist method, it works best...

Thanks, Dr.CSS. Is there any difference when it comes to moving pages in the menu hierarchy in the future? Are links made with the {cms_selflink} option more intelligent, or would both (or neither) linking method handle a moved page?

They should both work still as it seems to make relative links not absolute...
