So, how good are Arvixe?

I will assume that most of us have noticed their ads in and around the forums. You've probably already noticed that they provide hosting with CMSMS already installed and have the cPanel to help you administer your sites.
So, how good do people think they are?
How suitable do you think they would be for hosting sites that are using in the Eurozone?
I don't currently use them, but am thinking of trying them out. My current host does not have a cpanel and lacks some of the more advanced functionality (although they are cheaper).

Hi Luminous,
Sorry for the late reply. I can assure you we have done extensive research and testing before we commenced the partnership with Arvixe. Among a zillion other questions, this is a question we have asked them too and received a positive answer.
However, I have notified them of your question here, so they can answer themselves. If you have any more questions, this is your opportunity to ask them
Same goes for anyone else who reads this post!
Regards,
Anne-Mieke Bovelett

No worries, its nice to hear back from you
Looks like I may be one of the first to give them a go from the active forum users (I'm assuming this due to lack of replies).
One thing I would like to know, what are their automated backup procedures like? As an example my current host takes daily backups of my files and database. I can login to my control panel with them and with the click of a few buttons a few minutes later my files or database backup appears in my inbox.

Hello luminous,
This is Avesta from Arvixe. Thanks for considering us. I would like to let you know that our work with developers and website owners is extensive. We have 24/7 live chat and phone support waiting and ready to help to answer any questions you may. If you have any doubts, please note we have a 60 day full money back guarantee, a 99.9% uptime guarantee, nightly backups(hourly on BusinessClass), and knowledgeable staff. If you have any concerns, please do feel free to let us know.
To answer your backup question, we do nightly backups on PersonalClass packages, hourly on everything else. We hold backups for about 1 month, and we give the control to restore individual files, or individual folders, or the entire site, right from your control panel from any restore point(either an hour ago, a night ago, last week, etc). You will only find this at select webhosts who have put in the investment and time for a great and redundant backup service.
Once again, if you have any questions, our staff is ready to answer them within seconds through live chat, phone, or email 24 hours a day. Feel free to also ask here, I'd be happy to answer.
Regards,
Avesta

Heh, now that does sound good. How can I argue with a sales pitch like that.
I've got a current project that is causing me to burn the midnight oil, but as soon as that is out of the way I'll setup an account to test out a couple of sites.
Thanks

Oh, one other thing - sorry.
Users on this forum seem to be from all over the world, so how does Arvixe handle geolocalisation with respect to search engine optimisation?
As an example, one of the hosts who operates inside France, appears to be from the UK for SEO purposes -

Hi,
A google employee has addressed this in a post, stating that if the domain extension is from a specific country, it will not take into account the location of the server's IP:
http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p ... 6eaf&hl=en
So far, getting a domain with the specific extension of the audience you want to reach may work best towards SEO purposes for targeting a specific country. Specially as IPs can be relocated, but domain extensions will always remain associated to the country they are owned by. Regardless, we have datacenters located in West, Central, and Eastern US as well as Eastern Canada. The IPs associated to each server is bound to the location. We currently do not have datacenters in Europe, but that is a clear path for us over the next 3-8 months. At this time, we have datacenter availabilities in Amsterdam and London, but we currently do not deploy any shared servers in those datacenters. Dedicated servers may be done on special request.

I just created an account at Arvixe so that I could transfer my site over... Just tested it with a stock install of 1.9.1 (From SVN).. The database access and page loads are very, very fast, especially for shared hosting.
http://crane.arvixe.com/~wishbone/1.9 (debug turned on)
I'll check again during the daytime when the loads are higher.

I have heard from some colleagues that Arvixe is pretty good. And i think they will be testing it first before giving a guarantee because they are putting their name on the line here. it’s not just any other recommendation but a partnership that could very well span for years. Some issues that arose though is their holding period for backups which is not usually long and can be vital when doing restores in case your site falters and crashes.

I have many sites with Arvixe. When I came to need a CMS I was pleased to see that they offered support for CMSMS which is the one I had decided to try. I am gradually converting all my sites to CMSMS. Arvixe is extremely helpful with hosting specific problems relating to CMSMS and used in conjunction with the CMSMS forum, they have sofar solved all my issues. On their discussion board there is a board specifically for CMSMS. As I was a complete beginner (at CMS's, not websites) when I started with CMSMS it was very useful. I am very satisfied with Arvixe and would recommend them to anyone needing a good host.

I have a Cron that performs a nightly backup of the entire site, including an SQL dump, and keeps 30 days worth.. If you're interested, I can send it to you.

Hi!
That Cron would be really helpful. Please post it here
