Checksum Test

I must be being really obtuse because I can't figure it out but nobody else has the problem.  In Step 1, the checksum test, it asks me to browse for a file.  What file is that?

Oh - I thought it was cleverer than that.  Isn't it best to check downloaded files before unpacking and using them?

Not to worry, it all works anyway  ;D

Thanks

the point of the checksum is to make sure that all the files were moved/downloaded/uploaded/unpacked/etc from the Forge to your web server correctly, without any corruption.  Obviously, the only time you can check that is AFTER they are resident on your server.  :o

glad it's working now!

That would be clever.  Now if I'd downloaded cmsmadesimple-1.8.2-base-checksum.dat instead of (or as well as) cmsmadesimple-1.8.2-checksum.dat  then it might have been more obvious what it was all about.

Can I do this same test in retrospect at Site Admin/System Verification ?

Thanks for your patience  :-[

Yes.  The purpose of that screen is to create a new checksum based on your final configuration, after you have completed setting up your site, modifying language files, etc.  This allows you to easily confirm that your site (files/folders) is OK or not OK if you suspect hacking, etc.  It does not (to my knowledge) give you any assurance of the integrity of your db.
