It's been awhile since I've done a message about the current project status, so I figured now was as good a time as any.

We've moved to a new dedicated server. Mostly becuase I needed to handle the bandwidth increase we've taken lately because of moving downloads away from sf.net. We did that move on Sunday and it's been pretty successful, except for an outage last night from (I believe) a runaway process. I'm going to monitor the machine a little more heavily and make sure that doesn't happen again.

0.9rc1 is due out this week (or early next week). This WILL cause some hiccups. Anyone who is developing modules should start using svn now and update their modules to use the new API. If you need help with using it, let me know. The old API will be deprecated, and modules written for 0.8.2 and below will not work. So, I plead that anyone who has written modules that are out in the wild to please update them ASAP.

I imagine this transition process will take a couple of weeks, so, the word of warning is: If you're using a 3rd party module, don't upgrade to 0.9+ until you know that module has been ported! There are no database changes in this release, so you could revert back to 0.8.2 without any content loss, but it's probably better just to leave it alone until you know for sure.

Not much else to report, really. The project continues to grow, and I'm glad the community is getting strong enough that people actually care about the content of these messages. :)

Thanks!

There is a daily svn built every morning (12.30pm UTC) that includes the latest changes. The url for that is http://cmsmadesimple.org/daily-svn.tar.gz.

I agree that this is the best open source CMS available today. With the new, stable API in 0.9, the amount of plugins and modules will hopefully increase.

As a newcomer I think it is a bit difficult to find the right plugin or module for my needs. There are numerous "semi-official" versions available from developers and some are posted on the Wiki.
For the success of CMS I think it is important that a library of working and tested plugins are available.

E.g I would like to use a gallery or an event module. What options do I have?

What about a searcheable page dedicated to modules and plugins categorised by their function? Each module could also have ratings given by the development team and by the community.

By the way wishy, I think the link to the browseable svn from the Subversion page

("You can also browse the source in SVN from your browser here")

is wrong. :?: I'm only taken to a default Apache site.

Thanks again for this CMS.

Oh, thanks for that. I knew I forgot to bring over something from the other server. :)

As for modules, I'm really hoping that it picks up from this point. It's definatly easier to use. Any module requests should probably be put up in the Module/Plugin forum so that people looking for ways to contribute can just pick one up and start working on it. I can drem, can't I? :)

Hi Wishy,
in case 'there are no database changes in this release', question is:
is possible copy new release files into new directory and just copy actual config.php and edit parameters 'root_url' and 'root_path'? I am speaking about concurrent running CMSMS v0.8.2 and v0.9 with same database. It will be helpful for rewriting modules :-)

Yes, that should work fine.

I posted a VERY high level roadmap on the website that I'll try to keep updated. As I think of major goals, I'll prioritize them there, though, it's by no means carved in stone, particularly with dates.
