I have spent a lot of time on trying to get a random image slider to work on a new CMSMS 1.8 website.

1-The Module 'Simple slider does not really work properly as it takes no notice of the varying sizes of images, and anyway cuts them off on the R/H side.

2-The Module photo album template, which I have used on versions prior to CMSMS 1.8, does not seem to work properly on 1.8 and the random image template it provides does not work.

3-The Gallery module does not have random image module.

4-A search of the web brings up some random image scripts BUT the ones I have tried bring up code errors on the page.

Before I abandon my quest, does anyone have a random image slider that actually works with 1.8?

Have you tried the Showtime module?  v1.0.1, it works w/cmsms 1.8, and works well (for me at least).

I would try it BUT the help information says that the module requires Adobe Flash player 10 or higher.

Now, I assume that this would be for the visitors' PCs etc. If so, is this really practical?

It certainly looks very good, but the product needs to be seen by all sorts of visitors.

Any other information anyone?

Gallery does have a function to generate a list of random images. It's easy to create a new gallerytemplate with e.g. the jQuery cycle plugin to display those images in a slideshow.

When it comes to sliders, I have learned that 10 different users have 10 different demands. So I my guess is that you have some additional requirements you haven't told us yet  ;)
