When will a builtin search function be added?

I see this as the only shortcoming of this great CMs. I've used this to develop 4 sites already and love it. It just really needs to have a search function. Any ideas? Do we all need to pool in some money to pay the developers of this CMS so they can make it a top priority? I'm willing, anyone else?

I would be willing to pay someone to release a good search that should then be part of the core of CMSMS. Maybe CMSMS should follow the same idea that some Textpattern developers have come up with: Holding a
module ransom! Thus CMSMS could raise some money and users of CMSMS could contribute to the development of this great software.

Nils

Now this is a good idea.
We could start a collection going, and when the collection gets to some pre-determined limit, we could prioritize the development, the funds going to support hosting, or other expenses incurred for the name of the product.
See, this is a perfect example of the open source community.

See, that's what I mean. I use this for personal and business sites. It saves me time and money and my customers like it. I'm in. Who wants to organize a funding drive? What kind of funding do you (developers) need to make this a right now top priority?

Why not adopt the ransom-plugin for CMSMS and use it with paypal? Some developers might want to use it, others probably won't. Since I am no programmer at all, I can not do this on my own, but I am willing to contribute to other modules by paying the ransom to release them.

Nils

That's propbably the best way to go about it.
So, developers - would this be something that could motivate you or make it worth your time to build a solid built-in search function sooner than is planned?

What functions do you want to have which one Pisearch module does not have? In project there's a link for feature requests

...
Why someone should reinvent the wheel?
CMSms has a modular structure so it's IMHO only Ted's decision to include this module to default installation.

A general search function in the core needs an API for all published modules to search and present the results of search.
The modules must use the Api if there is something to search.
A module like Pisearch or whatever can collect the results and show it.
But this is a big break in the systematics of the cms and everyone who has written a module for this Api he can rewrite it.
That is not only the decision of Ted. He can decide it for himself but not for others, who had much work with her modules.
I mean there are more important things than this as to make a caper if somebody told us about some dollars.

Implementing phpDig or other spider based search methods is not that hard to do. All other methods, db search and such are just plain dumb ways to pretend to do a search.
The only real way to do a search in a site based on templates and use of seo is a spider.

After nagging a few times about the lack of search in CMSMS I finally found the time to test (and translate it in Dutch) the module version of PiSearch and I must admin that compared to the user tag this is a breeze to install and use.
Allthough the module generating a new page in the Pages section for the output is somewhat alien to me (as you loosing it by accident is a real option if you clean out content) it sure works as advertised.
So a big thumbs up for 1.01 of PiSearch
