[Solved] Attempted upgrade

Post by dorcom »

We were having some problems with a clients site and attempted an upgrade to the current version of CMSMS. After following the upgrade procedure, we were unable to get into /install/upgrade.php (blank page)as per the upgrade instructions. After some investigation we discovered our hosting was PHP 4 not 5, so I tried to restore the file system I had backed up from before the upgrade. All I now get are blank pages - no error reports. What have I done wrong? I have installed a few CMCMS sites, but this is the first upgrade attempt!

Is this on someone's computer or hosting? Because I see lines like

Code: Select all

$config['root_path'] = 'd:\domains\removed\wwwroot';
all of these paths will have to be changed to correct server paths. This is in config.php.

Where are you seeing those links? The site is on Catalyst2 hosting. I have checked config.php and all paths seem correct. I will delete all files and start again.

Ok - update, after reading your article on your website, I went through the restore procedure again and this time (with a bit of faffing around with the file system) managed to get the site back up!
Still don't really know what went wrong, but will post update if I can replicate it.

Thanks for your help.

I'm connecting with the login information that you gave me. Whatever site I login to has those incorrect paths. Make sure YOU are looking at the correct config.php file. How can you tell? Upload an image file to where you think the correct installation is installed, and see if you can view that image from the domain name.

Hi
Just a quick note of thanks for your time on this one.
I have stripped all the files off again and gone through the procedures again and have got it working.
Config.php was the first file I checked for errors and what I was seeing was fine, unless I was seeing a cached version maybe.
Anyway, all is fine now and once again thanks for your help.
