[SOLVED albeit on-hold] Pretty URL without Hierarchy in 1.8

After updating to 1.8. the following is not present in the config file

#If you're using the internal pretty url mechanism or mod_rewrite, would you like to
#show urls in their hierarchy?  (ex. http://www.mysite.com/parent/parent/childpage)
$config['use_hierarchy'] = false;

Tried adding it to no avail - would like to carry on showing URL's without hierarchy so's not to break the continuity in my stats. Am using mod-rewrite

Anyone ? - gruss - spike

From 1.8 hierachy is forced and the option to turn it off is removed. Therefore the option in config.php is removed.

Oh Jeeves,
is there any way at all of removing hierarchy ?
On my about 350 page site it was extremely useful for both statistical evaluation as well as SEO.
A most unfortunate move - had I known I wouldn't have changed.

Is it not a questionable practice of adding features only to take them away a few versions later?

grumble, grumble - gruss - spike

Thanks Jos - I wasn't aware of that thread - Although I did research the topic my search terms didn't return that particular discussion. So that makes it solved - albeit on hold.
