[solved] really, really basic questions

Rockin' forum you guys, great work!

Recently I took on a share of administrative tasks for a non profit web site, which was built on a much earlier version (2006, I think) of CMS.  I am not the full owner of the site, we're looking for that info, and probably have it, or at least could get it.
So far, I've looked at templates, reviewed modules (I've had some experience working with module installation), I've been able to fix HTML and other glitches (still some to go), to tighten up the CSS and make it more like what we want, and mostly presentable.  I have come to a wall at accessing meta data for the site.  The Global Settings provide the only instance of meta data I can find, and when I save the keyword and description blocks to the Global Settings, they save, but do not appear in the source after clearing cache and page reload, where they should be in the head.  Like I said, really basic.
I've talked with the web site host, and have some assistance.
I Still have not accessed the site outside of the CMS platform, to look at any directories or php script via ftp.

Etiquete question:
Is it appropriate to post the web site address for a client here?  Do you sometimes communicate address specifics in private messages?

Even more basic:
Questions about UNIX, and I apologize for that in advance.
Don't worry, I'm not asking any questions about UNIX.  This is FYI.  I just got my text books and haven't logged in yet.  Well, it's not really that bad, I've dabbled in DOS and UNIX in the past, just not enough to be able to do anything, and apparently not enough to have learned how to work commands between two users on a system, from a single terminal.  That's where I'm stuck right now.  One time someone helped me through an ftp session in Terminal and I saved it to review again later.

How can we set up a forum like this - this layout?  Most I like how you show the folders hierarchy display at the top.  That works.

Thanks for the help in advance.  Great forum.

If the template doesn't have {metadata} tag in the the global metadata won't show...

Links to site your working on is fine, unless your client doesn't want you to put it here...

You may have trouble getting answers about UNIX here as it is CMSMS centric...

The forum template was tweaked/built by me and the little folders up top are from a call in the older template that I added to this one...

Thanks, Dr.

There were two meta tags in the Global settings, one for the generator, the other is the http-equiv.  I just added keyword and description tags, but they don't apply, once saved, that I can tell.

Do we need to find a template with keyword and description tags built into it?

In the template used for your pages, whether it's one or many, add the {metadata} tag in the where you want it to output the metadata...

If you still have any of them look at one of the default templates for examples...

Sweet.  Thanks, Dr.

This platform was good back in 2006.  I'm looking forward to seeing your updates!

Our version of CMS is still 2006.  It was good then.  I'm looking forward to seeing how you've made it better when we start performing updates.

Thanks for the help with stuff, much appreciated.
