Feature question: Does CMSMS support a taxonomy / vocabulary?

Hello,
I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but it seemed the most appropriate.
Does CMSMS support (either natively or through a plugin module) the concept of a hierarchical Taxonomy (similar to Drupal)? I would like to use a site taxonomy to tag content for purposes of site search, showing related/similar content, etc.
I saw the "Simple Tagging" module, but it seems that (1) this is not a hierarchical set of categories, (2) it hasn't been updated since 2008.
