Hi Guys,

Before I set about this I want to confirm that I am doing the right thing.

I need to upgrade from 1.5.3 to 1.7.

I've been looking at the downloads section on the main site
Do I need to apply the following diff downloads in succession?

1.5.3 -> 1.5.4
1.5.4 -> 1.6
1.6.1 -> 1.6.5
1.6.5 -> 1.6.6
1.6.6 -> 1.6.7
1.6.7 -> 1.7

Or is there a quicker way?

Thanks,

Nick

Upgrading from such an old version is a risky process and depends on alot of factors.

a) does your site configuration match what is required now
    CHECK THIS BEFORE PROCEEDING
b) what third party modules are you using?
    i) Are they still maintained?
        If not... you may want to figure out what you're going to replace it/them with, and how before proceding
    ii) Are they compatible with the newer versions
        if not... STOP HERE and do more investigation
c) Do you have any custom modifications to the site.
    - Numerous people have asked how to upgrade from an older version that they've hacked, or have had hacks done for them.
      the short answer to this is:  "Don 't ask support questions here"

      This is because we don't know what you've done or why, and would have to reverse engineer these hacks to either re-implement them, determine what problems they fixed and/or caused or to figure out a better mechanism.  If you're competent enough to hack your own install of CMSMS  then you're competent enough to figure out any remaining problems on your own.

      side note:  This is also why we don't like people posting changes to source code on the forum

That stuff aside.
Given the assumption that you have a system that matches the requirements for 1.7.x and that you're not using any hacked files
or any strange third party modules that aren't supported. jumping directly from 1.5.3 to 1.7 should work fine.
1. make sure you have backups of everything including ALL files and the database
2. make sure you have verified that those backups are not corrupt and that you can restore from them if needed.

Next time keep up to date on upgrades.
