CMS Made Simple Forums

Hey,

I am having to install CMSMS on a hosting package provided by a company called 'Fasthost' because that is what the clients is already using.

I have used CMSMS alot on another host with CPanel and never had any problems. However, this host does not have Cpanel and shell access is difficult so I uploaded using FTP. Everything seems to work except I cannot upload any files successfully. The weird thing is that if I go into file manger and upload a tiny jpg, 5k, for example then I receive a message saying the file was uploaded successfully and I can see the new file name in the list but if I click it I get a 301 Moved Permanently error.

I have tried playing with all the permission configuration options but that doesn't seem to help. 

The other weird thing is that browse for the new file in my ftp client I can see it and if I click it then it opens as expected.

The only problem I cant definitely see in the system verification page is that my Maximum Execution Time is "20" and thus a fail. Is this what is causing my problems?

Any advice would be very gratefully received?

Thanks for your reply. Not quite sure what you mean though, could you elaborate a little? I have set all the permissions to 777 at present, and have tried other permission values but to no avail.

I don't really understand why the file uploads successfully and then I can see it in the list but if I click it I get a 301 error. If I browse to the file through my ftp client and click to view it I can see it correctly. However, if I copy the url and then try and view it with the ftp bit removed I get the 301 error again.

Also, review or post your .htaccess, if any.

I don't understand what you mean by "Mask".

I think I understand the others and as I said have played around with folder and file permissions.

I don't have a htaccess file.

Global Settings>Advanced Setup>File Creation Mask (umask). Test it and research for what it's for.

Sorry, yes I had checked that and I thought the results were fine.

Results

Owner: domain870018
Permissions:
  Owner: Read,Write
  Group: Read
  Other: Read

With these results file permission 777 should be fine shouldn't it? Is there anything else I can check?

It is up to you to research whether "Owner: domain870018" is correct. I suggest heading to the CMSMS IRC channel, or waiting for response on the forum from someone else.

Okay. So does that mean you think the root of my problems lie with the fact that the owner is "domain870018" rather than the registered database user, like "cms_user", which is how it appears on my other set-ups with my preferred host?

It should be, and also your second setting in the unmask Group: Read should also have Write in it...
