Related Products in Product Module

I can't believe I would be the first to want to do this, but I can't seem to find anything on search.
I'm using the product module for adding products, what I would like to do is have a section on a detail page for "Related Products" like you see quite often now in a lot of ecommerce sites.
Only way I can figure is to make a product also a category. But that's going to really junk up my categories.
What I would really like is in the admin interface as your adding a new product there is a list of products you can check to associate with this product that would generate the list.
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
